Myopia or nearsightedness is more common in children than ever before. This disturbing trend is only made worse by the fact that a myopic child’s uncorrected distance vision will get worse and worse as they get older. By the time your child reaches adulthood, they may need a very strong pair of glasses just to get through everyday life.
You may, however, be able to preserve some of their distance vision through a process called myopia control.
Eye strain contributes to the progression of myopia in kids. Myopia control is a process designed to help children see distant objects clearly while reducing the strain that may come from shifting their focus from far to near. By cutting down on eye strain, myopia control can slow down the rate at which myopia progresses; sometimes by as much as 50%.

Ortho-k quite literally offers clear vision overnight. Through special rigid, gas permeable contact lenses, ortho-k reshapes the corneas, correcting myopia. All your child needs to do is put the lenses in before bed and take them out when they wake up in the morning. Their corneas will hold their new shape throughout the day, giving them clear vision without glasses or contact lenses.
To reverse ortho-k treatment, all your child needs to do is stop wearing their lenses overnight, and their corneas will return to their natural shape.
Multifocal contact lensess and, to a lesser degree, multifocal glasses, can reduce eye strain by offering clear vision for near and far. Unlike single vision lenses, multifocals offer different levels of correction in different sections of the lens. Each corrective level blends seamlessly into the next, removing the harsh line you see in bifocals.
As thought leaders and innovators in the eye care industry, the optometrists at Hayden Optometric Inc. are always looking for new and more effective treatments. It was that search for better care that led our own Dr. Hayden to create the Hayden Advanced Lens Therapy or HALT system.
This incredible system has been called “LASIK for kids, but without the lasers, risk, pain, recovery, and expense.”
